FOIA Request to Brown County Register of Deeds Regarding Property Sales Records/Transactions on May 2, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at The Sconi have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Brown County Register of Deeds. Our request seeks access to records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., specifically focusing on property sales transactions within the county.

We are requesting a list of all properties and their most recent sale details, along with all available metadata related to these transactions. This includes information such as the Recorded Instrument ID, Transaction Date, Transaction Amount, Transaction Type, Buyer Name, and Seller Name. We have requested this data in electronic format for ease of analysis and dissemination.

Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information as a media organization, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as part of this request.

This effort is further supported by our affiliation with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Missouri Corporation dedicated to assisting news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. By leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws, we aim to pull back the curtain on government actions and help inform the American electorate.
