A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Buffalo County Election Department in Wisconsin on February 5, 2025. The request, issued by media organization The Sconi, seeks comprehensive details about all candidates running in the upcoming election.

In our pursuit of transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, we asked for specific information under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq. The details requested include each candidate’s full name, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office, and party affiliation.

Furthermore, we have requested contact information for each candidate including their address, phone number, and email address. This data is essential for us at The Sconi to provide accurate news coverage and inform the public about their potential representatives.

As a media organization committed to reporting news to the public and holding public institutions accountable, we believe access to such public records is crucial. We have also sought a fee waiver as a media professional given our role in disseminating this information.
