A request has been submitted to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office under the Wisconsin Open Records Law by The Sconi, a media organization focused on local governmental affairs. The request seeks comprehensive data on all arrest records from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023. The requested information includes detailed data points such as the arrestee’s name, sex, race, age, date of birth, and citizenship status. Additionally, it requests booking IDs, dates of arrest, booking photos, names of arresting officers, types of crimes committed, locations and dates of these crimes.

The Sconi emphasizes its role in providing transparency and holding public institutions accountable through access to public records. They have requested this information in an electronic format and have also sought a fee waiver citing their status as a media organization. This request is part of their ongoing efforts with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy to investigate state and federal governmental agencies using Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
