FOIA Request to Dane County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

In our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at The Sconi have submitted a request for records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., specifically seeking information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.

Our request includes details such as the candidate’s first, middle, and last names, the office they are running for, the jurisdiction of that office, and their party affiliation. In addition to these basic details about each candidate’s campaign, we have also requested contact information for each candidate including their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
