A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Dane County, Wisconsin, on October 7, 2024. The request was made by The Sconi, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In the interest of transparency and accountability, we at The Sconi requested records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., specifically seeking access to FOIA logs from January 1, 2024 till October 7, 2024.

The requested information includes specific fields such as the requester’s name and organization, the content of the request, the date when the request was made and completed, and the status of the FOIA request.

As members of the media engaged in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
