FOIA Request to Dane County Register Of Deeds Regarding Property Sales Records/Transactions on May 2, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, The Sconi has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Dane County Register Of Deeds. We are seeking access to a list of all properties and their most recent sales, along with all available metadata related to these transactions. Specifically, we have requested details such as Recorded Instrument ID, Transaction Date, Transaction Amount, Transaction Type, Buyer Name, and Seller Name.

This request is made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and we have asked for the information in electronic format. As members of the media dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public, we believe that access to these records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Additionally, given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals.

Our efforts are supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Missouri Corporation that assists news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. By leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws, we aim to pull back the curtain on government actions and help inform the American electorate.
