FOIA Request to Door County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at The Sconi have sent a request under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., to the Door County Election Department. We are seeking information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.

The specific details requested include the first, middle, and last names of each candidate, the office they are running for, their jurisdiction of office, and their party affiliation. In addition to this, we have also asked for all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

We believe that access to public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities as journalists. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we consider ourselves eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

Our efforts aim to keep the public informed about who is running for office in their local government. By doing so, we hope to encourage active participation in democracy and foster an informed electorate.

Should there be any questions or concerns regarding our request, we invite open communication with the Door County Election Department.
