A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Menominee County Election Department in Wisconsin on October 30, 2024. The request was made by The Sconi, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The FOIA request specifically sought information about the methods used by the county election department for counting ballots. If manual counting is employed, The Sconi has also requested an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

As part of our journalistic duty at The Sconi, we believe in holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Access to such public records is crucial for us to fulfill these professional responsibilities. We have requested this information under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and have asked that it be provided in an electronic format.

Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also sought a fee waiver as a media professional. We are currently awaiting a response from the Menominee County Election Department regarding this request.
