The Sconi, a media organization focused on local governmental affairs, has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department in Wisconsin. The request seeks comprehensive arrest records for the year 2023 under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq. The requested information includes various data points such as arrestee name, sex, race, age, date of birth, citizenship status, booking ID, date of arrest, booking photo, names of arresting officers, type and location of crime, and date of crime.

The Sconi emphasizes the importance of accessing public records to fulfill its role in holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As part of their request, they have also asked for a fee waiver citing their status as a media professional.
