FOIA Request to University of Wisconsin – Steven’s Point regarding recent course syllabi on August 6, 2025.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted by The Sconi, a media organization, to the University of Wisconsin – Steven’s Point. The request seeks access to a comprehensive list of course syllabi for all undergraduate and graduate courses offered during the Spring 2025 academic semester. This includes syllabi from all departments, schools, and colleges, regardless of whether the courses were conducted in-person, online, or through hybrid formats.

The requested information encompasses several specific details: the course title and number, instructor name, department or academic unit, and the delivery format of each course. The request emphasizes that this information is sought under the Wisconsin Open Records Law and asks for it to be provided in an electronic format.

The Sconi has also highlighted its role as a media entity dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency. As such, they have requested a fee waiver for accessing these records due to their status as media professionals. Furthermore, the requestor is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that supports news media companies in investigating governmental agencies using Freedom of Information laws.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
