A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Washburn County Election Department in Wisconsin on October 30, 2024. The request was made by The Sconi, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The FOIA request specifically asked for records detailing the methods used by the department to count ballots in upcoming elections. If manual counting is employed, The Sconi has also requested an estimate of the number of people who will be working on election night.
