A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Waukesha County in Wisconsin on September 25, 2024. The request was made by The Sconi, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The request specifically sought information regarding absentee ballots mailed for the general election slated for November 5, 2024. This included early voting, overseas, military and any other ballots that were sent out to voters.

In line with our commitment to transparency and accountability, we asked for detailed information such as Voter ID, Registration Date, Age/Date of Birth, Full Name including Middle Name and Name Suffix. We also requested data related to Registration Status and Reason, County and Precinct of registration, Contact Details including Address, City, State, Phone Number and Email Address.

Furthermore, we requested information on Party Affiliation and Absentee Status. Details about the ballot itself were also requested; these include Ballot ID, Election Date for ballots sent out, Request Type (whether it’s Absentee, Mail-In, Early or Overseas), Ballot Request Date as well as Send and Return Dates. Lastly, we sought information on the final status of each ballot – whether it was accepted or rejected.

As a media organization committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public through our reporting work, we believe access to such public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We are hopeful that this request will be granted swiftly so we can continue delivering accurate news coverage to our readership.
