FOIA Request to Winnebago County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 30, 2024.

In our continued efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at The Sconi have submitted a request under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., for specific information regarding the methods used by the Winnebago County Election Department to count ballots in the upcoming election.

Our request specifically seeks details about whether the ballot counting process is manual or automated. If manual counting is employed, we have asked for an estimated number of personnel who will be working on election night. This information is critical in understanding how the election process is conducted and ensuring its transparency.

As a media organization, our role involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to such public records allows us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We believe that as media professionals engaged in disseminating information to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver for this request. We await a response from the Winnebago County Election Department and will keep our readers updated with any developments.
