Scott Walker, the former governor of Wisconsin, said that the federal grand jury’s decision regarding Judge Hannah Dugan disproves political bias claims and reinforces legal accountability. This statement was made on X.

“The liberals who claimed suspended Judge Hannah Dugan’s arrest was politically motivated can’t ignore the decision of a federal grand jury,” said Walker. “No one is above the law.”

In April 2025, Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of obstruction of justice and concealing a person from arrest. According to the Associated Press, the indictment alleges that Dugan assisted Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, an undocumented immigrant with a prior deportation, in evading Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents by escorting him through a restricted courthouse exit. The Wisconsin Supreme Court suspended Dugan from her duties pending legal proceedings, and she is scheduled to appear in court while maintaining her innocence.

A federal grand jury formally indicted Judge Hannah Dugan on May 13, 2025, following her arrest by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on April 25 for allegedly obstructing immigration enforcement. CBS News reports that the indictment states that on April 18, Dugan used a nonpublic exit to help Eduardo Flores-Ruiz avoid apprehension by ICE agents at the Milwaukee County courthouse. She faces up to six years in prison if convicted, and her arraignment is scheduled for May 15.

Judicial misconduct cases have surfaced across multiple U.S. states, revealing varied breaches of ethical standards by sitting judges. According to the National Center for State Courts Judicial Ethics Blog, recent examples include judges in Texas reprimanded for personal bias, procedural violations, and misuse of office. These incidents highlight the continued need for robust oversight to maintain public confidence in judicial impartiality.

Walker served as the 45th governor of Wisconsin from 2011 to 2019, following earlier roles in the state legislature and as Milwaukee County Executive. Wikipedia notes that Walker gained national prominence for spearheading Act 10, which curtailed collective bargaining rights for public employees and led to large-scale protests and a 2012 recall election he survived. After leaving office, he became president of Young America’s Foundation, a conservative advocacy group.
