MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today announced his appointment of Mary Shawanokasic to serve as Menominee County Register of Deeds. The appointment fills a vacancy created by the resignation of Menomin Hawpetoss, effective Aug. 4, 2023. Shawanokasic will serve for the remainder of the unexpired term that ends on Jan. 5, 2025.

“Having served as deputy register of deeds, Mary Shawanokasic has the experience to carry out the duties of Menominee County Register of Deeds and have a positive impact on Menominee County in this new role,” said Gov. Evers.

Shawanokasic is a graduate of Menominee Sr. High School and the College of Menominee Nation. She has served as the deputy register of deeds in Menominee County since 2021. Shawanokasic’s appointment received unanimous support from the Menominee County Board of Supervisors.

“I am extremely honored to accept the appointment of the Menominee County Register of Deeds by Governor Evers. I look forward to continuing my services to the citizens of Menominee County,” said Shawanokasic. “As the newly appointed Menominee County Register of Deeds, I will continue to excel in my duties and strive for the best for the members of Menominee County.
