Governor Tony Evers announced on May 4 that he is celebrating Public Service Recognition Week and State Employee Appreciation Day across Wisconsin, highlighting the work of public servants and state employees throughout the state. Earlier this year, Evers declared 2026 as the Year of the Neighbor to emphasize community and togetherness.

The recognition aims to honor those who serve Wisconsin’s kids, families, and communities. The governor proclaimed May 3 through May 9 as Public Service Recognition Week and May 6 as State Employee Appreciation Day in Wisconsin. According to his office, a copy of the proclamation is available on Gov. Evers’ website.

In a video message shared with residents, Governor Evers said: “Hey there, folks. Governor Tony Evers here. This week, we’re celebrating Public Service Recognition Week and State Employee Appreciation Day.” He continued: “I declared 2026 the Year of the Neighbor in Wisconsin because I want to spend this year celebrating all the amazing neighbors who make our state the great place it is. The helpers who go above and beyond to help their neighbors and communities thrive.”

Evers also said: “Folks, I’ve spent 50 years in public service, so I can say without a doubt that few exemplify what it means to be a good neighbor better than our public servants and state employees.” He highlighted roles including teachers, park rangers, clerks, librarians, correctional officers, first responders, emergency management staff, public health professionals among others for keeping communities strong.

He further stated: “Each and every day they strive to perform their jobs with integrity and competence and professionalism… And our communities, our state, and our country are better safer stronger for it.” The governor expressed special thanks for over 30,000 state employees working across Wisconsin.

Concluding his remarks in recognition of these efforts he said: “So this week and every week our hats go off to all of you. Thank you for all you do to serve our neighbors and our state… You have my deepest respect appreciation… So happy Public Service Recognition Week State Employee Appreciation Day Wisconsin.”
