Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson used the X platform (formerly known as Twitter) to criticize the FDA’s lack of approval for utilizing Ivermectin as a COVID-19 treatment, highlighting that the agency now seems to acknowledge its viability three years later. Johnson’s post included a video interview where he participated in a segment called “Mornings with Maria” on Fox News, delving into the purported FDA recognition of Ivermectin’s potential usage.
“@US_FDA sabotaged the use of ivermectin by tweeting: ‘You are not a horse. You are not a cow…Stop it,'” Johnson tweeted. “But when pressed in court, they said: ‘FDA explicitly recognizes that doctors do have the authority to prescribe ivermectin to treat COVID.’ How many died needlessly?”
Johnson’s remarks follow a statement from Ashley Cheung Honold, a lawyer from the Department of Justice who represented the FDA. Honold mentioned last week that the “FDA explicitly recognizes that doctors do have the authority to prescribe ivermectin to treat COVID.” Nevertheless, the FDA maintains its position that the drug has not been officially approved, and its website continues to discourage its use, according to Zero Hedge.
In 2021, a significant number of COVID-19 patients in the United States, particularly those who opted against vaccination, sought a prescription for Ivermectin out of desperation. This was driven by international reports of the drug’s effectiveness and personal testimonials from individuals who had been permitted to use it. However, the FDA maintained that Ivermectin did not provide genuine benefits and requested doctors to refrain from prescribing it, citing insufficient scientific evidence for its approval and encouraged vaccination instead, according to the New York Times.
