Derrick Van Orden, Representative of Wisconsin, said that the One Big Beautiful Bill will bolster small businesses by offering tax relief, simplifying regulations, and promoting investment and growth. The statement was made on X.

“Main street businesses are the backbone of our communities,” said Derrick Francis Van Orden, U.S. Representative from Wisconsin. “They employ our neighbors, boost our local economies, and encourage innovation. The OBBB uplifts our local businesses by cutting bureaucratic red tape, delivering tax relief, and making it easier to grow and invest.”

The One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB), enacted in July 2025, is a significant federal initiative aimed at enhancing small business growth. It seeks to achieve this by increasing the small business deduction, expanding Qualified Small Business Stock (QSBS) exclusions, and reinstating 100% immediate expensing. Lawmakers are engaged in intense debates over its potential impact on deficits and economic equity, according to the White House.

According to the White House, Wisconsin hosts over 545,000 small businesses—comprising 99.8% of all businesses in the state—and these generate nearly $100 billion annually. Nationally, the OBBB’s 23% small business deduction and improved QSBS rules are projected to benefit approximately 26 million entrepreneurs.

The Tax Foundation reports that since 2021, federal small business tax policy has shifted towards increasing deductions. This includes making the 20% Section 199A deduction permanent and raising it to 23% under OBBB while also restoring immediate expensing and broadening QSBS rules to foster investment.

Van Orden, a Republican representing Wisconsin’s 3rd District since 2023, is a retired Navy SEAL and business owner who supported the OBBB for its permanent small business tax deduction and QSBS expansion. This support is reflected in his congressional press release and voting record.
