Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers, said a Wisconsin poll found that 65% of Hispanic voters support Trump’s immigration policy, favoring financial incentives for voluntary departure of undocumented immigrants, with 23% supporting forced removal as an alternative.
The topic is significant as it highlights attitudes toward immigration enforcement among key demographic groups in a battleground state. The poll results suggest that financial incentives for self-deportation and cooperation between local and federal authorities are gaining traction among both the general population and Hispanic voters.
Cortes addressed the issue on his X account, posting about a poll conducted for the League of American Workers that surveyed Wisconsin voters on immigration enforcement. The poll focused on support for local police cooperation with federal authorities and offering financial incentives for self-deportation. It highlighted backing from various demographics for these measures according to his post.
According to TIPP Insights, 57% of Wisconsin voters support full cooperation between local and state police and federal law enforcement on immigration matters, compared to 34% opposed. Among Hispanics in the state, this support stands at 56% to 37%. The survey also found only 27% want Wisconsin to follow Minnesota’s immigration approach as reported by TIPP Insights.
Nationally, polls show similar trends. As reported by the Department of Homeland Security, 56% of registered voters nationwide support deporting all illegal aliens, with 78% favoring deportation of criminal illegal aliens. A New York Times/Siena poll indicated 54% back deporting immigrants living illegally in the U.S. to their home countries. These figures reflect broad public backing for enforcement actions according to DHS.
“When Americans know the actual Trump policy on illegals — i.e. generous cash incentives to leave voluntarily and the ability to apply legally later, otherwise deportations — support spikes… Hispanics 65/23% in favor… Do you know that illegals are being offered really generous packages to go home to self-deport so their exit from this country doesn’t have to be in handcuffs and it doesnt involve risk for american officers a lot cost for american tax payers,” Cortes said according to his X account.
Cortes traded interest rates, equity ETFs, and currencies for institutional clients over 25 years before transitioning into media roles at CNBC’s Fast Money and as a contributor at Fox News and CNN. He served as senior spokesman and strategist for Trump’s campaigns in both 2016 and 2020, including outreach efforts targeting Hispanic communities according to All American Speakers.
