Steve Cortes, president of the League of American Workers, said the 2026 Wisconsin gubernatorial election could have significant national implications, as he appeared in a video report from the state while supporting Republican candidate Tom Tiffany.
Cortes argued the race carries national weight because of Wisconsin’s status as a closely divided swing state.
“As Wisconsin goes, so goes America,” Cortes said in a social media post. “If we have a Republican governor in Wisconsin for 2028 presidential elections that means that we have a chance to have election integrity particularly in places like Milwaukee that cheat systemically. The whole of America should pay attention to Wisconsin 2026. We need Tom Tiffany to be governor here.”
Tiffany, the current U.S. representative for Wisconsin’s 7th congressional district, is among the leading Republican contenders in the open governor’s race, according to Cortes.
Wisconsin has frequently been a closely contested battleground state, with major population centers such as Milwaukee playing a significant role in statewide outcomes due to narrow margins and the growing use of absentee and mail-in voting. According to PBS Wisconsin, local election officials referred dozens of suspected irregularities for review during and after the November 2024 election cycle.
The Heritage Foundation Election Fraud Database has also documented past cases of alleged election-related irregularities in Wisconsin across multiple election cycles, including some involving Milwaukee County that resulted in referrals for review or legal proceedings.
Cortes founded the League of American Workers, which focuses on policies he describes as supporting American workers and economic nationalism. He previously advised President Donald Trump on economic matters and has worked as a senior political adviser for CatholicVote.
