Marquette University issued the following announcement on June 3.
Marquette men's soccer players Zyan Andrade, Manuel Cukaj, Alex Mirsberger and Lukas Sunesson were named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 First Team, per release on Thursday morning.
The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.
A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Zyan Andrade had an excellent first season at MU after transferring in from the University of San Francisco. He was named Third Team All-BIG EAST after scoring two goals and dishing out two assists in nine games in 2021. Both of his goals were game-winners in overtime (vs. SLU, Feb. 13; at CU, March 20) and he delivered the free kick on Mirsberger's game-winner against DePaul. An advertising major, Andrade posted a 4.0 GPA in the classroom this year.
Cukaj, a redshirt junior from Mannheim, Germany, makes his second career appearance on the CoSIDA Academic All-District team. The double major in finance and information technology finished the year with a 3.8 GPA in the classroom. On the field, he started in 11 games and scored two goals, including a game-winner against Xavier on March 17.
An accounting and finance major, Mirsberger posted a 3.66 GPA this year. On the field, he was named Second Team All-BIG EAST and BIG EAST All-Tournament Team in 2020-21. The Brookfield, Wisconsin native scored a game-winning goal to beat DePaul in overtime this year while also dishing out two assists. This is his second academic honor of the year after he was named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region team a couple weeks back.
The final academic all-district honoree is Lukas Sunesson, a junior striker who double majors in operations & supply chain management and international business, Sunesson holds a 3.82 GPA in the classroom.
On the pitch, the Taby, Sweden native had a breakout season that saw him score a team-best six goals along with two assists. He played a key role in leading the No. 13-ranked Golden Eagles (8-3-2, 5-1-1 BIG EAST) to one of their best seasons in program history after winning the BIG EAST Midwest Division title and earning a trip to the NCAA Tournament Round of 16.
