Wisconsinites who haven't yet gotten their COVID vaccine still have time to do so and get $100 from the state for their efforts.
Those who got their vaccine before Aug. 20th will go largely unrewarded but Wisconsin residents who get vaccinated against COVID before or on Labor Day are eligible for a $100 gift card from the state.
Gov. Tony Evers highlighted the $100 COVID-19 Vaccine Reward Program for tardily vaccinated Wisconsin residents in social media posts and a press release issued by his office.
"BREAKING: Wisconsinites 12 and older who receive their first dose of any #COVID19 vaccine from a Wisconsin provider between August 20 and September 6 can receive a $100 gift card," Evers said in an Aug. 23 Facebook post now pinned to the top of his Facebook page. "It's that simple, folks. Get vaccinated, get $100. So, head to Vaccines.gov today to find your vaccine and then, head over to 100.wisconsin.gov to receive your $100 Visa gift card to your Wisconsin address."
Evers urged Wisconsinites to do the right thing.
"As our kids start heading back to school and the Delta variant continues to spread rapidly across our state, we all need to step up," he said in his Facebook post. "I'm urging all eligible Wisconsinites to roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated to help protect their fellow Wisconsinites."
Evers made similar comments in a Twitter post Sunday, Aug. 29.
"COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective, and one of the best tools we have to keep folks safe and continue bouncing back from this pandemic," Evers said in the news release issued two days earlier, encouraging state residents "to get vaccinated as soon as possible."
"Not only will you get $100 in your pocket, but you can rest assured knowing that you’re helping keep yourself, your loved ones, and your community safe," Evers continued in the news release. "So don’t wait, folks. Get your COVID-19 vaccine and the $100 Visa gift card as soon as possible."
The gift card giveaway isn't the only reward the state has offered in exchange for getting vaccinated. During the Wisconsin State Fair earlier in August, Evers urged in a Facebook post that the unvaccinated get their shot at the fair for a free cream puff reward. More than 600 were vaccinated at the fair.
COVID vaccines began rolling out in the U.S. in December. As of Tuesday, Aug. 31, more than 54% of eligible Wisconsin residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine with the vast majority now fully vaccinated, according to data from the state's Department of health.
