This week, the Voter Reference Foundation (VRF) -- which strives to ensure transparent, accurate and fair elections in the U.S. -- is launching a portal that allows the public to track sent and returned absentee ballots on a daily basis.
Wisconsin is one of the first three states to be added to the portal.
In a press release Wednesday, VRF Executive Director Gina Swoboda said this comes as a part of efforts to make elections more transparent, piece by piece.
"Our mission is to make voter information more accessible to the public. It is the public that bears the cost to collect and maintain this data across the country," Swoboda said, according to the VRF website.
Starting this week, the public has the ability to go to a VRF portal to track sent and returned absentee ballots every day.
As it does with the voter rolls, VRF is compiling publicly available information and publishing it in an easy-to-understand, accessible format. The portal, which will be updated daily, is available via the Voter Reference Foundation website.
Wisconsin is one of three states currently in the portal, along with Georgia and North Carolina. In the coming weeks, Michigan and Nevada are set to be added as their primary elections occur, ranging from May through August.
Wisconsin was added to VRF's voter transparency website, VoteRef.com, in December 2021. The database currently contains the voter rolls of 21 states as well as Washington, DC.
