Walworth County Update for August 3, 2022

What’s happening in #WalCo this week?

Everyone's flocking to the Educational Day at White River County Park on August 5; take note of WIS 11 road closures; don’t forget to RSVP to the screening of SPARK; the Partisan Primary is next week; and Lakeland Health Care Center is looking for volunteers.

Educational Day at White River County Park

Geneva Lake Conservancy, Friends of White River County Park, and Fellow Mortals Wildlife Hospital are teaming up to host a special presentation on birds during an Educational Day event at White River County Park on Friday, August 5, from 10 to 11 a.m. The event is part of Wisconsin Land Trust Days, an annual celebration of land trusts held every year in August and September. White River County Park is located at 6503 Sheridan Springs Rd., Lake Geneva. Learn more about Land Trust Days at HaveFunOutside.org.

Volunteers Wanted for Walworth County Fair Outings

Lakeland Health Care Center (LHCC) is in need of 10 volunteers to assist residents during two outings to the Walworth County Fair on the mornings of August 31 and Sept. 1. Volunteers will help ensure that LHCC residents are able to enjoy a fun and safe morning at the fair. Volunteers’ fair admission is paid for. Those interested in volunteering should contact Volunteer Services Coordinator Colleen Lesniak at (262) 741-4223, clesniak@co.walworth.wi.us.

WIS 11 Closures

Resurfacing work on Wisconsin Highway 11 (WIS 11) began on August 1. The work is being done between Clausen Road and the Walworth/Racine County Line, along the western portion of the Burlington Bypass.

During the project, drivers can expect the following closures:

  • Full closure from Claussen Rd to North/Lyons Rd with the intersection of STH-1 and North/Lyons Rd open running north and south
  • Full closure from North/Lyons Rd to CTH-JS
  • Single inside lane closures on STH-11 East from STH-36 to Spring Valley beginning 8/5/22
Construction is scheduled for completion by late fall 2022. The schedule is dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction progress. View the press release.

Last Chance to Register for SPARK, a Lewy Body Dementia

The Walworth County Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) will host SPARK, a Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) event on Friday, August 5th from 9 to 11 a.m. The morning will be highlighted by a viewing of SPARK, a documentary about actor Robin Williams and his battle with Lewy body dementia. Following the film, a panel of experts will share their experiences and offer a Q & A opportunity. All are welcome to attend, but the ADRC highly encourages individuals with LBD or Parkinson’s as well as their caregivers to attend.

The event will be held in the Walworth County Room at the Walworth County Department of Health and Human Services building, 1910 County Road NN, Elkhorn. RSVPs are highly recommended by calling (262) 741-3273. Or reserve your tickets online.
