Aspirus Heart Care is organizing a seminar to educate the public about atrial fibrillation (AFib), a heart condition that can lead to stroke and heart failure if not treated. The event, scheduled for January 29th at The Hilton Garden Inn in Wausau, will run from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Registration is requested, although attendance is free.

The seminar aims to shed light on the connection between AFib, stroke, and heart failure while presenting treatment options available at Aspirus Heart Care. Dr. John Johnkoski, a cardiothoracic surgeon, and Dr. Andrew Mykytsey, an electrophysiologist, will discuss various management strategies for AFib. These include traditional and minimally invasive methods as well as catheter-based ablation techniques.

Dr. Johnkoski explained the seriousness of AFib by stating, “Atrial fibrillation not only disrupts normal heart rhythm but also significantly increases the risk of life-threatening complications like stroke and heart failure.” He noted that individuals with AFib have a fivefold increased risk of stroke compared to those with regular heart rhythms.

Dr. Mykytsey emphasized the importance of early diagnosis by saying, “AFib arises from irregularities in the heart’s electrical signals, and timely diagnosis is crucial.” He warned that untreated episodes could result in permanent changes in heart tissue and function.

Aspirus Heart Care invites anyone experiencing symptoms or diagnosed with AFib to attend this session for valuable information on managing their condition.

To register for this event, call 800.847.4707 during business hours or visit aspirus.org/classes-events.
