The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women’s track and field team will compete for its 14th consecutive title at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championship, according to an April 30 announcement. The two-day event is set to take place at UW-La Crosse’s Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex, beginning Friday, May 1 and concluding Saturday, May 2.
The WIAC championship is significant as it brings together top collegiate athletes from across the conference, with UW-La Crosse aiming to extend its winning streak. Last year, the Eagles secured their 39th league crown by earning points in all events and achieving double-digit scores in sixteen of them. The team also returns several individual champions from previous years.
Head coach Nickolas Davis has led the program to seven WIAC outdoor titles since taking over in 2018. He was named WIAC Outdoor Coach of the Year in his first season and has overseen a coaching staff that has received recognition for six straight seasons. Returning champions include Samantha Barrett in triple jump, Maya Evans in long jump and triple jump, Amber Grosse in heptathlon, Madison Habberstad in pole vault, Ainsley Hansen in high jump, Brooklyn Luebke in the 5,000-meter run, Lucile Duchac in the 10,000-meter run, Anna Plautz in the 400-meter dash and Ella Puls in javelin throw.
The meet will feature medals awarded to top-eight finishers individually and top-six relay teams. Several returning athletes earned podium finishes last year both on track and field events. Notably, Maya Evans was named Field Performer of the Meet for 2024 while Ainsley Hansen earned Newcomer of the Year honors for her performance during her debut season.
Following this weekend’s competition, UW-La Crosse will host additional meets including the Uncaged Eagle Open on May 8. The university is also scheduled to host the NCAA Division III Championships later this month from May 21-23.
