The Village of McFarland announced on May 3 that spring hydrant flushing will begin throughout the village starting the week of May 4. The process is expected to be completed within one week.

Hydrant flushing is an annual maintenance task required by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The procedure ensures that hydrants are operational, helps remove mineral deposits from water distribution pipes, and circulates any pocketed water or air.

Residents may notice discolored water during this period. The village advises letting the water run until it clears if discoloration occurs and recommends checking washing machines before doing laundry to avoid staining clothes. According to the announcement, “The water will be safe to drink.”

Those with questions are encouraged to email the Public Works Department or call 608-838-7287 for more information.

This routine maintenance aims to ensure continued water quality and system reliability for residents.
