An organization lobbying for gun rights is asking President Joe Biden to ease up on his gun control proposal for fear that it might target 105 million law-abiding citizens who are just proud gun owners.
The U.S. Concealed Carry Association sent a letter to Biden in which it asked the 46th president not to criminalize responsible gun owners. The letter said, “While we can agree that there are several 'common sense’ and long overdue changes needed to our nation’s gun laws, we firmly believe that the path forward should be focused on supporting and protecting responsible, law-abiding Americans—not criminalizing and punishing them,”
The group argued that the current administration’s proposal for gun control is unnecessary and ill-timed since more and more people are purchasing firearms in light of the global pandemic. It also said that more civilians are buying guns because rioting situations have motivated them to protect themselves.
There have also been talks about how to label guns or rifles and that some Pro-Second Amendment organizations are arguing that labeling some rifles as “assault weapons” is inaccurate and “nebulous.” They argue that there should be a more concise way of categorizing rifles as assault weapons before these are singled out and banned from civilian use.
