City of Sun Prairie recently issued the following announcement.
Mayor Esser presented a proclamation acknowledging June as Pride Month in Sun Prairie.
The proclamation recognizes this as a time to support the LGBTQ+ community in the City and denounces all acts of prejudice and discrimination. It also highlights the resilience that arose from the Stonewall riots occurring at the end of June in 1969 in which the queer community responded to a police raid that started at the Stonewall Inn. The proclamation follows after an ordinance was adopted last month that bans certified providers from practicing conversion therapy on youth.
Sun Prairie is committed to advancing equity, honoring our diverse identity, and creating an inclusive culture. These serve as our guiding principles every day in all that we do.
