Gov. Tony Evers recently signed the 2021-2023 state budget for Wisconsin.

The new budget comes amid the state “bouncing back” from COVID-19 and experiencing one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation, according to Evers.

“The past year, we trusted the science and worked hard to put our state and economy in the best position to recover from the #COVID19 pandemic,” Evers wrote in a July 8 Twitter post. “This budget is possible because we worked to be a national leader in getting shots in arms and to stabilize our economy by getting help to folks who needed it.”

The Wisconsin Budget Project reports that the state budget, which passes through several stages and cannot allow money to move anywhere without being signed first, runs for two years starting in July when it is signed.

Evers stated in a press release that he was focused on education and funding for schools first in the budget, along with the 10% tax cut he promised the middle class.

The budget also includes a large section focused on “Badger Bounceback” or Wisconsin’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Division of Executive Budget and Finance Department of Administration.
