Johnson and Baldwin recommend candidates for Seventh Circuit Court vacancy

U.S. Senators Ron Johnson and Tammy Baldwin have recommended five individuals to fill a vacancy on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. The senators sent their recommendations in a letter to President Trump, as part of the bipartisan Wisconsin Federal Nominating Commission’s process for suggesting nominees during the 119th Congress. The commission is tasked with providing recommendations for positions including U.S. Attorneys, U.S. District Courts, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Senator Johnson expressed appreciation for those serving on the commission, stating: “I want to thank those on the Commission for the considerable time and effort they volunteer to ensure the Wisconsin federal courts and chambers do not become attractive forum shopping venues for partisan activists seeking a judicial bench open to constitutional overreach. I look forward to the President nominating one of these candidates to the Seventh Circuit.”

The full text of their letter is available online.

Ron Johnson has previously secured election victories in Wisconsin, defeating Mandela Barnes in 2022 with 50.4% of the vote compared to Barnes’ 49.4%. In earlier races, he won against Russ Feingold in both 2016 (50.2% to 46.8%) and 2010 (51.9% to 47%).
