Fresh from a visit to one of Wisconsin’s natural treasures, Gov. Tony Evers wants constituents to experience what he experienced: A wonderful time out in the open.
Evers tweeted on July 21 that he “enjoyed great views and great weather” at Perrot State Park in the Driftless Area, encouraging Wisconsinites to visit state parks.
“We have a lot of great state parks in Wisconsin, so make sure to visit them this summer—get outdoors, folks,” the governor said.
In the first “normal” summer since 2019, travel has resumed again, much to the delight of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, which oversees Perrot and 65 other state parks.
The agency said it has done a lot since the pandemic to encourage safe outdoor recreation that is COVID friendly and good for residents, including many ranger-guided hikes throughout the state every week.
Other DNR funded activities include litter clean ups, classes on proper fishing, hunting, berry picking or native traditions, and some time with former Civilian Conservation Corps member and singer/songwriter Bill Jamerson.
WSAW reported that nearly all of the state parks were booked for the weekend of July 24.
“A lot of our increases are from folks that did just try camping last year,” Natural Resource Property Supervisor Dawn Bishop told the station. “They went out and they purchased camping equipment or a camper or a boat too for that matter.”
