The soldiers of Battery A, 1st Battalion, 121st Field Artillery out of Hartford recently welcomed Capt. Alicia Dorsett as their first female commander at a ceremony on Aug. 15, according to a report by the Courier.

This is Dorsett's second time to make history as she was the state's first female field artillery officer in 2014.

"The first Wisconsin female field artillery officer and now the first female to command a field artillery battery in the Wisconsin National Guard," Sen. Tammy Baldwin stated on Twitter. "Captain Alicia Dorsett continues to break barriers in our military. Congratulations Captain!"

Dorsett replaces Capt. Randy Humphrey, who has served as Battery A's commander since 2019.

In recognition of her service to her state and nation, Dorsett has also been awarded the Wisconsin National Guard's 1st Lt. Thomas E. Wortham IV Award, which is presented annually to soldiers and airmen who support their communities and distinguish themselves during military duty.

In a statement to the Courier, Dorsett urged other female officers to not be afraid to climb the ladder and assume command under difficult circumstances, something that many lower-ranking female troops have already committed to doing under her guidance.
