A group of lawmakers from seven states wrote a letter to increase the usage of biofuels. Sen. Tammy Baldwin joined them to urge the administration not to allow any reduction in biofuel blending requirements.

“Every gallon of biofuels that’s blended into our nation’s fuel supply displaces a gallon of oil and cuts carbon emissions. I’m calling on the Biden administration to issue strong RVOs so that we create jobs and help address climate change," Baldwin tweeted.

Baldwin and the group of lawmakers aimed at calling attention to the fact that the administration could potentially lower the Renewable Volume Obligations (RVOs). According to the group, lowering RVOs would weaken the Biden administration’s claims to be committed to climate change. Additionally, the group believes that issuing “strong” RVOs would create jobs and stimulate the economy.

RVOs are issued by the Environmental Protection Agency every year. The EPA can increase them every year, but Reuters predicts that the 2021-22 RVOs will remain the same due to a decrease in fuel demand due to COVID.

On Sept. 27, Growth Energy also issued a statement calling on the EPA to increase RVOs, citing concerns about greenhouse gas emissions.
