Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) recently tweeted to wish everyone a "Happy National Farmer's Day."

National Farmer’s Day is celebrated mid-harvest season on Oct. 12. Other industries that agriculture supports include leather, apparel, restaurants, beverages, textiles, trucking, railroad, forestry, pharmaceuticals and transportation, told by National Day Calendar.

“Happy #NationalFarmersDay," Baldwin said in a tweet. "Here’s to the ones who work in acres, not hours today. Thank you for all your hard work in feeding and fueling Wisconsinites. Wishing you all a safe harvest!”

Wisconsin’s agricultural sector contributes $104.8 billion to the state’s economy each year. Agriculture provides 435,700 jobs, which is 11.8% of the state’s employment. In addition to cheese, Wisconsin is first in the nation for snap beans for processing, dry whey for humans, milk goats, corn for silage, cranberries, ginseng and mink pelts. There are 64,793 farms in Wisconsin covering 14.3 million acres. There are more dairy farms in Wisconsin than in any other state, told by Datcp.

WEAU reports that National Farmer’s Day has been observed since the early 1800s as a way to recognize and thank the farmers who produce vital food and fibers. To celebrate, Wisconsin’s Secretary of Agriculture Randy Romanski will be touring several farms in the western part of the state.
