A group of former Green Bay Packer players have joined forces in an effort to restore a playground in Milwaukee.

Democratic Gov. Tony Evers took to Twitter to praise the efforts of the former Packers.

“Our Green Bay Packers are Wisconsin's team both on and off the field. Thank you, @Packers, for giving back to our communities and helping ensure our kids have safe places to learn, play and grow,” he wrote.

The Packers organization has stepped up to rebuild a playground in Milwaukee’s Metcalfe Park neighborhood that was burned down in 2019 during a wave of vandalism in the area, according to WDJT.

"This feels good because I'm from Milwaukee, so whenever there's a chance to give back to Milwaukee, I'm down for it," Marwin Evans told the news station. Evans was a safety for the Packers between 2016 and 2018.

The organization was joined by the NFL, along with alumni team members, a robust crew and a $50,000 contribution for the renovation.

The playground and subsequent area has been in disrepair since it was destroyed and the project team began work on the park in Mid-October with the objective to have it ready in time for Halloween.
