A cluster of 22 bills named “Forward on Climate” have been proposed by Democratic legislators from across the state.

“Yesterday, I was honored to join @LGMandelaBarnes, @RepGreta and the Climate Caucus to introduce a bill package that both combats climate change and sets a strong foundation toward climate and economic equity in Wisconsin,” Rep. Supreme Moore Omokunde (D-Milwaukee) tweeted.

Wisconsin Public Radio reported that among the proposed bills included “Social Cost of Carbon,” asking the Public Service Commission to “consider the social cost of carbon” when it authorizes certain public utility development, along with “School Weatherization & Energy Efficiency Grants,” a $10 million annual incentive geared toward “weatherizing” Wisconsin schools.

“Proud to introduce legislation in the #ForwardOnClimate bill package with @RepGreta & Legislative Dems. By addressing climate change, we can support farmers, build up clean energy manufacturing sector, invest in our kids and schools and bring opportunities to every corner of Wisconsin,” Rep. Sara Rodriguez  (D-Brookfield) tweeted.

The measure “Climate Change Local Planning” would force municipalities to cultivate climate change plans similar to how they prepare disaster mitigation plans while the “Complete Streets” measure consists of bike lanes and pedestrian paths when the Department of Transportation constructs new roads, according to Wisconsin Public Radio.

“It’s time for Wisconsin-centered climate action. We’ve got to take bold steps so that we can move #ForwardOnClimate,” Rep. Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) tweeted.

Wisconsin Public Radio stated that “Model Climate Academic Standards” would develop a climate change curriculum for public schools and the “Racial Disparity Impact Studies” would have the Department of Natural Resources to analyze how susceptible communities are hurt by environmental hazards such as air and water pollution.
