Wisconsin State Rep. Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna) has promised to keep fighting to protect the lives of unborn children after Gov. Tony Evers (D-WI) recently vetoed five pro-life bills.
Evers tweeted a photo of him with a group of people as he signed the vetos on legislation "that would restrict access to reproductive health care" and vowed to do the same for any similar bills that would come across his desk as long as he's serving as governor of the Badger State.
"@GovEvers made his position clear today that a life not wanted is a life worth wasting. Sadly I'm not surprised considering he's publicly stated before that defending our most vulnerable isn't a 'productive use of time,'" Steineke tweeted on Dec. 3. "In other circumstances, babies born alive during operations are given care: Why should this change during an abortion? It shouldn't. Despite our governor's radical ideologies, I will never stop fighting against this injustice to protect those who cannot protect themselves."
The bills that Evers vetoed would have banned abortions based on the unborn child's sex or race, would have required doctors to tell pregnant women having a medication-induced abortion that they could change their mind after the first dose and continue with the pregnancy and would have held doctors accountable by making it a felony for physicians to not perform life-saving medical care or cause the death of a child born alive during an abortion, according to PBS.
Evers has promised to strike down all pro-life bills and has even made it a cornerstone of his reelection campaign, Fox News reported.
According to the nonprofit Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), the vetoes came just days after the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Case, which challenged the decision in Roe v. Wade case that legalized abortion in 1973.
