Gov. Tony Evers (D-WI) recently announced that he has pardoned an additional 30 individuals, bringing his total to 337, according to a press release from the Office of the Governor.

Evers, who pardoned several individuals convicted as teenagers for misdemeanor drug charges, has now granted more pardons in his first three years in office than any other governor in recent history.

"I’m proud of our work to give a second chance to folks who’ve made amends and paid their debt to society,” Evers stated in the press release.

While a pardon does not expunge a conviction or ensure that it will not show on background checks, it does restore several rights to the pardoned individual, including voting, gun ownership, jury service and holding public office.

“These individuals have recognized and acknowledged their past mistakes and this sends a powerful message of redemption as each of them work to build a brighter, better future for themselves and their communities,” Evers continued.

Individuals pardoned by Evers include Nicholas Smith, who was arrested at the age of 18 for possessing marijuana in his car and Damian Spiropoulos, who was also arrested on marijuana charges at the age of 21.

“Every person deserves a second chance," Evers stated on Twitter. "I’m proud to issue another round of pardons to folks who’ve served their time and need another opportunity.”

Evers also pardoned Jamie Gyr for stealing from a storage unit when he was 18 and Terrell Harper for transporting a buddy to sell marijuana when he was 21.

According to a report by the Wisconsin State Journal, Evers has exceeded the nearly 300 pardons issued by former Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle during his eight years in office.

Doyle's predecessors in office, Republican Govs. Tommy Thompson and Scott McCallum had awarded 262 pardons.

However, former Gov. Scott Walker, Ever's predecessor, did not issue any pardons during his tenure.
