Investigation underway into officer-involved incident in Fennimore

The Wisconsin Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is currently investigating an officer-involved critical incident that took place in Fennimore, Grant County. The incident occurred on the afternoon of December 18, 2024.

On Wednesday afternoon, officers from the Fennimore Police Department apprehended an adult male at a residence on the 1500 block of 2nd Street. This was part of an ongoing investigation. While in custody, the individual inflicted self-harm using an edged weapon. Law enforcement did not use lethal force during the incident. Officers provided immediate aid to the injured man, who was first taken to a local hospital and later flown to a hospital in La Crosse County for further treatment. No other individuals were harmed.

The officer involved has been placed on administrative duty following agency policy. During the incident, law enforcement officers were equipped with body cameras.

The DCI is leading this investigation with support from the Wisconsin State Patrol, La Crosse Police Department, and Grant County District Attorney’s Office. All law enforcement personnel involved are cooperating fully with the DCI's efforts.

As part of their process, DCI is reviewing evidence and working to establish the facts surrounding this event. Once completed, investigative reports will be handed over to the Grant County District Attorney’s office.
