Eau Claire is joining 45 communities across Wisconsin in preparing for the second annual Be Active Wisconsin Community Fitness Challenge, kicking off during the month of March.
In a Jan. 27 report by WQOQ, Eau Claire Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department officials called on the challenge as a great way to establish both healthy living and healthy competition across the state.
"We want to encourage especially in the winter, where our community can come together, and be proud and be fit," Eau Claire Parks, Recreation and Forestry supervisor Julie Booth told WQOQ.
Participants in the challenge are welcome to compete in any outdoor activities of their choice and log minutes to gain points for their community, the report states.
According to WQOQ, Eau Claire ranked 42 out of 45 in the Be Active challenge in 2021. Participants in the challenge may access the city’s Winter Gear Share equipment at Pinehurst Park free for the duration of the competition.
Area businesses and agencies are encouraged to have their own personal challenges within the overall city challenge, WQOQ reports. The deadline to register to compete in the annual event is March 9 with an entry fee of $10. Those who choose to participate will be given a free t-shirt upon registration and all ages are welcome to compete.
