The Suring Public School District superintendent was recently charged with false imprisonment of six female students.
Superintendent Kelly Casper is accused of holding six girls in a school bathroom and asking them to remove some of their clothes to search for vaping devices, according to Madison.com. Some of the girls were asked to strip down to their underwear.
Oconto County District Attorney Edward Burke Jr. said an investigation into the incident focused on the search of the students and not their confinement, so no charges where filed initially.
"Upon their review, the state found that Casper lacked legal authority to confine the students in a small restroom in the school complex. The state also found that the students did not consent to being confined, nor were they given the opportunity to leave or contact their parents," Burke said in a statement.
The school superintendent has been charged with six charges of false imprisonment. She faces a maximum penalty of six years in prison for each count if convicted.
Casper will make her first court appearance on March 23.
