Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers is leaving no doubt about where his heart and focus are this holiday season.
“Our small businesses are the hearts of our Main Streets and some of the best places to find one-of-a-kind gifts for everyone on your list,” Evers recently posted on Twitter. “This holiday season, remember to #ShopSmallWI!”
Evers’ passions have long been in the same place, with WKOW reporting that for the second year in a row the governor has designated Nov. 26 through Dec. 31 as “Shop Small Wisconsin” time. The theme is to encourage residents across the state to purchase locally.
With “two-thirds of every dollar spent at a small business staying in the community,” Evers noted that shopping small goes a long way by supporting local jobs and benefiting the overall economy; the WKOW report said.
“Shopping small supports your neighbors, and that’s what being a Wisconsinite is all about," First Lady Kathy Evers said in a video message. She further explained that local businesses are more likely to carry out all their operations—including hiring, purchasing needed supplies and giving back to the community—in the neighborhood where they are located.
One of the ways that residents can easily find local products is by looking for the "Something Special from Wisconsin" logo.
