As President Biden proposes a new rule that would amend Title IX to forbid U.S. schools and colleges from banning boys from participating in girls’ sports, a new national poll finds the majority of Americans support such a prohibition.
“More than 6 in 10 adults in the Post-KFF poll said trans girls and women should not be allowed to compete in girls’ and women’s sports, including professional, college, high school and youth levels,” reported The Washington Post.
The Sconi reported last month that Georgia is one of 29 states to allow boys to participate in girls’ school sports.
The Republican-controlled state Assembly voted in 2021 to pass two GOP bills that would prohibit transgender women and girls from participating in school sports teams that correspond to their gender identity. They faced vetoes by Gov. Tony Evers, according to Wisconsin Public Radio.
Terry Schilling, president of the American Principles Project, criticized Wisconsin for not "taking action in defending the integrity of women's sports."
"Biology matters, especially in sports,” Schilling told The Sconi. “Men have a distinct athletic advantage over women, a fact that led directly to the passage of Title IX five decades ago. Sadly, the radical ideologues in the Biden administration and many other powerful institutions now deny this simple truth and threaten to wipe out the gains made by women.”
As of publication time, there are 29 states that still allow boys to participate in girls’ high school sports: Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
In April, Wisconsin's representatives split along party lines for a U.S. House vote to pass a bill prohibiting school athletic programs from allowing boys to participate in girls’ sports.
Both of Wisconsin's Democrat representatives voted against H.R. 734, “The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act.", which passed the House on a vote of 219-203. The legislation now awaits a vote in the U.S. Senate, where U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) introduced a companion bill.
The White House issued a statement saying President Joe Biden will veto the bill, if passed by the U.S. Senate.
