WILL Holds First Annual School Board Summit to Help Restore American Education in Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL) recently hosted its inaugural school board summit, attracting over one hundred attendees, including school board members and administrators from districts across Wisconsin. The event, co-hosted by the Noah Webster Educational Foundation, focused on various topics such as government transparency, school board policies, parental rights, school finance, and curriculum reform.

During the summit, Cory Brewer, WILL Education Counsel, emphasized the importance of addressing relevant issues facing school boards to enhance student success. Brewer expressed enthusiasm about the event's success, stating, “The incredible turnout and positive feedback from attendees make us eager to host this event again next year.”

Robert Pondiscio, Senior Fellow at American Enterprise Institute, highlighted the influential role of public school board members in shaping students' learning experiences. Pondiscio commended organizations like WILL for their efforts to improve education in Wisconsin and beyond, stating, “It’s critical that organizations like WILL are stepping up to improve education in Wisconsin and across America.”

Dr. Erica Anderson, a clinical psychologist and summit speaker, stressed the significance of parental involvement in their children's education, particularly in areas like gender identity. Anderson emphasized, “Parental involvement in all aspects of their children and teenagers’ lives is imperative, and this includes involvement in their education and everything going on at school.”

The summit also featured the unveiling of the Second Edition of WILL's model school board policies, aimed at enhancing school governance, transparency, parental rights, and student academic achievement. The updated policies cover various areas including cell phones in classrooms, financial literacy instruction, classroom observation, and political displays.

Additionally, the event included informative panels and presentations on empowering school board members, ensuring racial nondiscrimination, maximizing district funds for student benefit, understanding parental rights in student gender identity decisions, fostering effective partnerships between board members and superintendents, and implementing policies effectively in the classroom.

The summit's overarching goal was to equip school board members with the knowledge and resources necessary to make informed decisions that prioritize student success and educational excellence. Through collaborative efforts and a commitment to enhancing educational standards, WILL aims to contribute to the restoration of American education.
