Attorney General Josh Kaul has announced a civil judgment against Dielectric Materials, Inc. for alleged hazardous waste violations at its Ozaukee County facility. The company is required to pay a $90,000 penalty as part of the settlement approved by the Ozaukee County Circuit Court on October 8, 2024.

"Companies that are responsible for hazard waste must ensure that they are complying with the applicable laws," stated Attorney General Kaul. He emphasized the importance of managing hazardous waste properly to protect public health and the environment.

The complaint alleges that Dielectric Materials' manufacturing process generated hazardous levels of barium and lead, which pose risks to human health and the environment. Specific allegations include failure to make accurate hazardous waste determinations, failure to arrange transport by a licensed transporter, and operating without a proper license.

Assistant Attorney General Tressie K. Kamp represented the state in this case, collaborating closely with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to reach this judgment. The resolution was approved by the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Finance on September 26, 2024.
