A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Taylor County Election Department in Wisconsin on October 30, 2024. The request was made by The Sconi, a media organization committed to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request specifically asked for a list of methods the election department is using to count ballots. In addition, if the ballots are being counted manually, The Sconi requested an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.
As members of the media, we at The Sconi believe access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as media professionals.
The Taylor County Election Department has yet to respond to this request. We will continue our efforts to provide comprehensive coverage of local government affairs and keep our readers informed about these important issues.
