FOIA Request to Pepin County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 30, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at The Sconi have sent a request under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., to the Pepin County Election Department.

Our request is specifically for a list of methods they are using to count ballots in the upcoming election. In addition, if the ballots are being manually counted, we have asked for an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

As a media organization, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We believe that this information will contribute significantly towards achieving these goals.

We have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional given our role in disseminating information to the public.

We await their response and will continue to keep you updated with all developments related to this matter.
