FOIA Request Sent to Eau Claire County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 30, 2024

FOIA Request to Eau Claire County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 30, 2024. The Sconi, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has requested information under the Wisconsin Open Records Law about the methods being used to count ballots in the upcoming election.

The request specifically asked for details about whether the ballots are being counted manually or through some other method. If the counting is done manually, The Sconi has also requested an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

As a media organization, we at The Sconi believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We have therefore asked for a fee waiver as a media professional in this request.

We await a response from the Eau Claire County Election Department and will continue our work in disseminating information and promoting transparency in local government affairs.
