FOIA Request Sent to Oconto County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 30, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Oconto County Election Department regarding their ballot counting methods on October 30, 2024. The request was made by The Sconi, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The Sconi is seeking detailed information about the methods used by the department to count ballots in the upcoming elections. Specifically, they have requested a list of these methods and if manual counting is involved, an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

As part of the media, The Sconi emphasized their role in gathering and reporting news to the public. They stressed that access to public records is essential for them to fulfill their professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

In light of their role in disseminating information, The Sconi has also requested a fee waiver as a media professional. They believe that this would enable them to continue providing comprehensive coverage on important civic matters such as this one.

The Oconto County Election Department has yet to respond to this FOIA request.
